What Is the Fate of My Loved Ones?
This is a common question. Thankfully there is an easy answer if one follows the scriptures.
The book of Ecclesiastes chapter twelve and verse seven states, “…and the dust [body] returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” But some will ask, “What about the soul?” The answer is found in Genesis 2:7 where we read, “Then the Lord God formed the man of the dust [soil] from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature [soul].” Thus it is noted that without a body and the breath of life there is no living creature or soul.
The Lord Jesus used the word sleep to describe a believer’s state in death (see John 11). An unbeliever is said to perish, John 3:16, as only one person is declared to have immortality, the Lord Jesus Christ, 1Timothy 6:16. All others must await their own resurrection.
